My Top Ten Styles this Semester

Hey!

I’m so glad you’re reading!

My name is Charis and I’m a student in Belfast. I’ve decided to create a blog to share my love of fashion. Some might say I have a mild shopping addiction, so I am going to share my fashion favourites, opinions and advice on this blog. Since coming to university my personal style has certainly evolved, and I’ve become a lover of colour, patterns and accessorizing.

So, let’s dive right in, these are my top ten favourite trends for the Autumn/Winter Semester.

1.Dark Denim

I jumped on the dark denim trend early in the new year when I bought a pair of dark denim jeans. I love how this looks especially in the Autumn and it makes brighter coloured tops and jackets stand out so nicely. I've accumulated quite a nice little collection of denim tops that I love to wear with white, yellow, baby blue and red as well as my dark denim jeans. The motel Dark Denim Jeans have to be my favourite, I do not yet have a pair, but my best friend does and she has convinced me although they're pricey, they're worth every penny.

2.Polka Dots

Polka dot nails, tops, dresses, phone cases I just love it all. Over the Summer the polka dot trend soared, and I'm obsessed with the mismatching burgundy and blue polka dot nail look. I did fall victim to the polka dot trend myself and got a gorgeous navy and white polka dot Hollister dress which I really enjoyed wearing and styling while on holidays. Hollister isn't the most student friendly with their prices but it's a brand I love. I got the dress during a sale for a smashing price of £14. I fear there may be some more polka dot items of clothing added to my wardrobe in due course.

3.Cherry cola/burgundy

Picking my nail design often proves difficult and I am a less is more kind of girl when it comes to nails. As said previously though I am loving the polka dot nails but especially the burgundy/cherry cola coloured nails in trend now. I have fallen victim to this beautiful colour and although I love my blue nails and that's my go
to, I think that this cherry cola is so perfect for Autumn, such a classy, rich, elegant colour.

4.Chunky Gold Jewellery

I am a gold jewellery girly, although I do unashamedly mix metals. I spent too many years collecting charms for my nomination bracelet to not wear it. I have a few higher quality gold pieces that I cling to, but I also love buying some less expensive pieces to style. I've been loving the chunkier gold necklaces, they just add so much to an outfit, especially when layered. The gold charms that are now on brown or black thread are so in as well. Lines and Current's necklace on thread is so classy but even the ones from Lovisa and Stradivarius are lovely as well and are significantly cheaper. The new Stradivarius also deserves a fat mention because my walk to University is now dangerous, as so often the wind just blows me in for a nosy and suddenly my purse is a little lighter.

                                            5.Barrel jeans

I am so incredibly here for the barrel jeans hype. I am a tall girl, and I've grown to love how barrel jeans make me look less like a giant. They're so flattering and don't cling to your legs making them incredibly comfortable as well. I have a dark denim and an off-white pair and I'm already scouring vinted for a black pair. I got mine in River Island and on Asos and I couldn't recomend more. I just know they will be my everyday jeans this Semester.

            6.Statement coats

A trendy and practical coat is so hard to find, and I loved last years quilted jacket/coat trend but when the rain came out, they weren't the most practical as most weren't hooded. This year I've found a beautiful little rain jacket off a business called Ginny&Me. It's the most beautiful blue gingham coat that has adjusting toggles and bell sleeves. I can't wait to wear it this Semester but what I've been seeing already is that the jacket of the season seems to be trench coats. Cropped trench coats are becoming increasingly popular. They are classy and give off a kind of corporate, clean girl vibe. I love the funnel neck trench coats, with the Paddington Bear coat material that button to the top. I'm yet to find one that I love but if I did see one for a reasonable price, I'm  not sure I could refrain myself.

7.Hairbands/headbands

I was reluctant about hairbands and headbands last year thinking they were childish but I'm truly a convert. My flat-mates last year loved a headband moment, and this year is the same. Whether it's just a plain white, navy or a pop of colour I think it adds so much to an outfit. I'm also in love with 'Violet & Twine's' brown gingham headband. One of the girls in my house managed to get her hands on one as they were in such demand and trust it will be used this Semester. It's such good quality and so versatile with the perfect brown that can be paired with so many other Autumnal colours. I've also been introduced to the plastic hairband trend this Summer and I got one with the clips where you feed your hair through, giving your hair a more voluminous look. I think it's the perfect way to up your look by adding something extra and the brown colour of  hairband is just perfect for Autumn as well.

8.Boots

Boots are an Autumn staple, whether it's Uggs, Hunters, Docs, Blundstones or knee highs. I love my Docs and they're out in full force each Winter. Knee Highs are also becoming less mumsy and trendier especially with a wee pair of socks poking out the top. I don't think I'd get enough wear out of them, but they are so cool when styled correctly. I love my Uggs in Winter, they're just the coziest shoe and an absolute Winter staple, I have the Tesco Ugg Dupes and they're fabulous, would highly recomend. I got them two years ago and wore them out and about everywhere last year and they're still going strong. I love the way Hunter Boots are coming back into trend, I'm yet to see someone wearing them in Belfast but I do think they're such a timeless brand and add class to any outfit although obviously they are quite the pretty penny.

9.Statement belts

Belts are really becoming part of the outfit, less a background character and more of a main character in the outfit. Metal decorative belts are so lovely in holiday and concert outfits, and I've loved seeing belts become more of a thing in everyday fashion. A burgundy belt is perfect for Winter or even leopard print belts. I have a beautiful multi-coloured belt that ties instead of buckles and when styled right it adds so much to a basic outfit.

10.Stripes

Last year the half of my wardrobe was stripes and this year it the same. I'm only after buying a beautiful red and indigo striped cardigan from Urban Outfitters and I'm in love. Stripes just add so much to an item of clothing, pinstripe-jeans, stripy linens, jumpers or tops, I just love it all. Stripy nails were also really trending over the Summer as well as other stripy accessories like phone cases, headbands and bags. It's such a timeless pattern and I think it really shows how sometimes less is more and a little stripe on clothing or accessories adds so much without being really in your face.

Thanks so much for reading, this is only the start so come back to read again soon!

Charis :)
